MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Psychology Department Colloquium Committee is pleased to announce a research presentation by Kimberley McClure, an esteemed researcher in the field of psychology and law. The presentation, titled "Cultural Context, Person-Perception and Officer-Subject Interactions," will take place at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, in Waggoner Hall 171. The event is open to the WIU community and can also be accessed via Zoom.

Professor McClure, alongside her colleagues in the COPS De-Escalation through Active Learning (DeTal) Assessment and Research Center and Laboratory for the Investigation of Psychology and Law, has conducted extensive research on the dynamics between law enforcement officers and community members, focusing on efforts to de-escalate interactions and reduce conflict. Her upcoming talk will explore how cultural context and personal expectations influence the perception of the likelihood that an officer or person of interest may use force during an interaction.

With multiple grants and several publications to her name, including a recent feature in Scientific American, Professor McClure's work has been widely recognized for its contributions to improving officer-community relations.

The WIU Psychology Colloquium Committee encourages students, faculty, staff and members of the community to attend this important presentation.
