Editor's Note: This is the first in a series of stories about Western Illinois University students, alumni, and community members, highlighting their experiences during our 125th anniversary celebration. We will feature 125 individuals from August 2024 to August 2025.

MACOMB, IL – Elizabeth Suter, a student in Early Childhood Education, chose WIU because of its proximity to home and affordable tuition.

"The experience at WIU is what you imagine a college campus to be, but it's even better," Suter said.
Working at the campus daycare gave Suter valuable experience that prepared her for her career.

"I could envision my future while walking to class. It was cool," Suter said.

When asked what advice she would give prospective WIU students, she enthusiastically responded, "Do it! If you're local, you can live at home, receive scholarships, and get a great educational experience for your money."

As we honor 125 years of educational excellence, we invite local WIU students to share their stories and be featured in our series. Contact University Communications at U-Communications@wiu.edu to participate.
