MACOMB, IL -- As part of National Transfer Student Week, Western Illinois University is proud to share the inspiring transfer journey of Baylee Palmer, who joined the Leatherneck community in the fall of 2022.

Palmer transferred from Black Hawk Community College in Moline and chose WIU to pursue a major in Forensic Chemistry.

"I was looking for forensic chemistry programs, and at the time, WIU was one of only a few schools that offered the program," Palmer said. "The fact that it was in-state, and that my mom is a WIU alum, helped me make my final decision to choose WIU over another school that was much farther away."

Since transferring to WIU, Baylee has had a fulfilling and supportive experience.

"The professors and students here are so nice and honestly want to help you," Palmer said. "This is such a welcoming learning environment and there is help around every corner if you know where to look."

A unique aspect of Baylee's journey has been the fresh perspective she's gained as a transfer student.

"Being part of two different academic environments has made me more adaptable and appreciative of the resources here," Palmer said. "It has also pushed me to be proactive in building new connections."

Reflecting on her time at WIU, Baylee is grateful for her decision to continue her academic journey at the University.
