Just Hired! Through the experiences of local, regional, national and international students, Western Illinois University has some incredible alumni who are changing the world in the workforce. This series will feature students from all over the world who are hired post-graduation.

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - Meet Sarah Lanoue, a Spring 2024 graduate in Music Education with a focus on Choral, who has accepted a job as Choir Director at Wilmington Middle School and Wilmington High School.

"I landed this job right as I was in the middle of my student teaching! During the prior semester, I was able to come and observe at both WHS and WMS for observation hours and the previous director let me know her circumstances and said I would be a perfect fit. The timing worked out perfectly! I was very thankful for my cooperating teachers at the time and my professors from WIU as they wrote my letters of recommendation," Lanoue said.

Lanoue feels her experience at WIU was personable and supportive of her dreams.

"The School of Music professors and staff at WIU are all very personable and supportive. This gave me great momentum as I worked through earning my degree. Having that same attitude of being a go-getter and stepping out of your comfort zone helped me get this job," Lanoue said.

Lanoue plans to stay involved with WIU by attending performances and events at the upcoming Goldfarb Center for Performing Arts.

"I would love the opportunity to come back as an alumni and perform in a concert there," Lonoue said.
