WIU Art & Design to Host "First Wednesday" Oct. 2

MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University Department of Art & Design is hosting its "First Wednesday" event from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, in Garwood Hall, the Heating Plant Annex and the University Art Gallery.

The WIU Art & Design faculty combine their efforts to offer creative, hands-on activities to visitors. The event is open free to the public and visitors are welcome from campus and the surrounding community and region.

October 2024 events include:


  • Art Historical Monster Naming and Coloring Contest, Garwood 10 - Dr. Sherry Lindquist

  • Printmaking - Garwood 12 - Professor Bill Howard

  • Art as activism posters - Garwood 11 - Professor Susan Czechowski-Garwood

  • Watercolor Painting Workshop - Garwood 25 - Professor Damon McArthur

  • Spooky Keith Haring Drawing - Garwood 24 - Dr. Ta-Teh Ku and Art Education Students

  • Cosmic Wheel Throwing - Heating Plant Annex 111 - Professor Ian Shelly

  • Copper Bracelets - Heating Plant Annex 107 - Professor Kat Myers


The University Art Gallery will also be open during the event with two exhibitions:
Roots and Routes, by Muyiwa Adeyanju
Rural Route 1, by Duke Oursler
