Editor's Note: This is the next in a series of stories about Western Illinois University students, alumni and community members, highlighting their experiences during our 125th anniversary celebration. We will feature 125 individuals from August 2024 to August 2025.

MACOMB, IL – Eva Weiss, a major in Recreation, Park, Tourism, and Hospitality (RPTH) at Western Illinois University, always knew WIU was the right choice, after growing up in Macomb her entire life.

"I was drawn to Western because the program I wanted is incredibly strong, the cost is affordable and I've always wanted to be part of this campus," Weiss said.

Her experience at WIU has been nothing short of positive.

"I've loved all of my classes and professors so far, and I've made some great friends," she shared.

Weiss feels confident that her professors are helping her in her dream career.

"Western has prepared me by offering various opportunities through classes and my professors' support, which have helped me figure out the direction I want to take," Weiss said.

She encourages prospective students to explore WIU, especially if they are unsure of where they belong.

"If you're worried it might feel too familiar because it's in Macomb, once you're on campus, it feels like a typical college experience," Weiss said.

As we honor 125 years of educational excellence, we invite local WIU students to share their stories and be featured in our series. Contact University Communications at U-Communications@wiu.edu to participate.
