MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University employee Brian Beck, Garage Foreman in Transportation Services, has been named the September Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month.

Beck began working at WIU in June 2008 as an automotive technician in Transportation Services, moving through various positions over his more than two decades in Facilities Management. His nominator praised his dedication to ensuring that WIU's fleet of vehicles remains safe and functional for campus use.

"Brian has been an integral part of WIU Facilities Management for over 20 years. He's an outstanding employee and colleague, always willing to accept new challenges," Roselieb said. "He's worked in various conditions, researching new vehicles, managing state vehicle trades and assisting with fueling and towing. He was instrumental in obtaining a minibus to serve larger groups, and is currently working on solutions related to underground fuel tank storage regulations."

Roselieb added that Beck goes beyond his responsibilities in transportation.

"Brian is always someone I can count on. Whether it's servicing a department golf cart or the live mascot doghouse trailer, he drops what he's doing to help out."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month and a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, and community members wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition, should contact the Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) at csec-nominations-g@wiu.edu.
