School of Ag Hosts Family Day BBQ on Sept. 28

MACOMB, IL - - Families can enjoy a day filled with food, farming, football and barbecue to celebrate Family Day on Saturday, September 28. The Western Illinois University School of Agriculture and the Office of Student Engagement will host a tailgate on WIU Family Day ahead of the football team's first home game of the season. The event will begin at 1:30 p.m. during tailgating in Q-Lot.

The event is highlighted by a barbecue ribs and brisket competition, where guests can buy tickets to taste the entries. Each team will also feature and serve a people's choice item that can be taste-tested. Tasting tickets are $4 each, two for $6 or four for $10. Tickets and packages that include event t-shirts and tickets for the tasting and football game, can be found at wiu.edu/familyday. This year's t-shirts will be purple and feature a fun design.

Food will be served while supplies last. Additionally, live music by the Rock'n Papas, a bags tournament and activities for the whole family will be available. A variety of boutiques and vendors for attendees to browse will be available. The event will wrap up at 5:30 p.m. after awards are presented.

This year's event is sponsored by Clock Tower Community Bank, a division of Morton Community Bank, Compeer Financial, the Illinois Farm Bureau, the McDonough County Farm Bureau, Pepsi, Smithfield, Sodexo and the Tri-County Cattlemen's Association.
