University Libraries Announces Strategic Initiatives and Organizational Evaluation

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - As part of the evolution of changes happening at Western Illinois University, University Libraries is evaluating the services offered and announcing new initiatives to move WIU into the future.

"The library is no different from the rest of the University during this time," Dean of University Libraries Hector Maymi-Sugranes said. "Over the next nine months, we will be evaluating and improving how we operate, ensuring that our services remain intact at both campuses and our accreditation remains secure."

These priorities highlight WIU's commitment to maintaining stability and excellence during the transition.

As part of a new initiative led by Maymi-Sugranes, the library is deepening its commitment to diversity by expanding its research collections. In partnership with the Library of Congress, University Libraries will continue the development of the Latinx and African American collections, with additional focus on Asia and Latin America.

University Libraries is also excited to announce the relaunch of the Bachelor of General Studies program, which is 100% online, further demonstrating WIU's dedication to providing flexible, comprehensive educational opportunities for students.

"The library will continue running the same way it always has," Maymi-Sugranes said. "We are committed to our mission of supporting the academic success and scholarly endeavors of our University community."
