WIU College of Business and Technology Agricultural Education GAST Award Recipients

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University College of Business and Technology (CBT) Agricultural Education has awarded five Growing Agricultural Science Teachers (GAST) scholarships to students.

WIU was awarded $40,000 from the GAST grant program, funded through the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

The grant will be used for various forms of recruitment and retention efforts within the Agricultural Education program at WIU. This year, $5,000 in scholarships will be awarded to five students, McKayla Jennings a junior of Pittsfield, IL, Maggie Beddingfield a freshman of Winchester, IL, Brittany Slightom a junior of Raymond, IL, Annaliese Goc a freshman of Macomb and Brooke Benhoff a senior of Ramsey, IL.

"The GAST funding has provided the Agricultural Education program at WIU a tremendous boost in recruitment and retention efforts," Baker said. "This funding goes a long way in assisting with the financial needs of our students particularly in the area of pre-service teacher education. We are thrilled to have this opportunity to provide some financial relief to these deserving students."
