WIU BFSC to Host Second Annual ABC Graduation Celebration Dec. 8

MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University Black Faculty and Staff Council (BFSC) is set to host the second annual African Diaspora, Black Collegiate (ABC) Graduation Celebration from 4-6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8 in WIU's Multicultural Center (MCC).
The program will commence at 4:30 p.m. with opening remarks from WIU President Guiyou Huang and Interim Provost Mark Mossman. The event will feature Jon'a Levi, a senior Social Work major, singing the Black National Anthem and Riley McAlister, a Forensic Psychology and Sociology major, serving as the event emcee.
Graduates will be recognized during the celebration, receiving dinner, a certificate of achievement and a special gift. BFSC Co-chair Lorette Oden expressed excitement and honor in recognizing the accomplishments of the Fall 2023 graduating class.
"These students have achieved successes, faced and overcome challenges and have ultimately made the decision to continue to pursue degrees from WIU," BFSC Co-chair Curtis Williams said. "The BFSC congratulates all of the graduating students and wishes each of them continued success as they move forward to their next steps."
This event is a testament to WIU's commitment to celebrating diversity and fostering a supportive community. More than 100 African Diaspora and Black students are graduating from WIU in Fall 2023. All faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend and recognize the achievements of Western's Black and African Diaspora graduates.
Doors will open at 3:30 p.m. and participating graduates are requested to arrive by 4 p.m.
