MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University extends an invitation to students to join the Western's All Volunteer Effort organization (W.A.V.E.), aimed at offering students a unique opportunity to enrich their professional and leadership skills while contributing to their community.

To become a member of W.A.V.E., students are required to complete a minimum of 10 service hours in one semester and commit to contributing five service hours each subsequent semester. The event on November 10 and 11 is an excellent chance for students to log one service hour.

In a remarkable collaboration with the Pre-Veterinary Sciences Club, W.A.V.E. will be actively volunteering at the McDonough County Animal Shelter. They will be lending a helping hand on Friday, Nov. 10 from 2-5 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 9 a.m.-noon at this community hub.

Pre-Veterinary Sciences Club President Jessica Alonso expressed the club's shared commitment to giving back to the community.

"As a club dedicated to animals and their well-being, W.A.V.E. aims to offer assistance in any way possible. Volunteering at the shelter not only aligns with our mission but also provides valuable hands-on experience, granting members an insightful glimpse into shelter medicine."

The Pre-Veterinary Science Club's mission extends to promoting professional networking and community service, with an emphasis on equipping its members with practical, real-world experience to prepare them for further education or entry into the workforce.

Students interested in joining or seeking additional information can contact W.A.V.E. organizer Evelynn Fetzer at EL-Fetzer@wiu.edu. The McDonough County Animal Shelter is located at 101 E Tower Road, Macomb, IL.
