UCC to Host Fresh Check Day on Sept. 21
September 14, 2023
MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University Counseling Center (UCC) will host a Fresh Check Day for WIU students from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21 at the Multicultural Center (MCC) lawn (rain location: MCC multipurpose room).
Fresh Check Day is part of the annual awareness campaign for the month of September, recognized as Suicide Prevention Month. The event will serve as a day to ‘check-in' with students regarding mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
"Nearly 40% of college students experience mental health issues, and suicide is the second leading cause of death among students. These invaluable programs allow us to bring our services directly to our students," said UCC Director Cara Cerullo. "Our counselors work tirelessly to reduce the stigma and misconceptions around mental health and suicide prevention and to empower our students to recognize signs within themselves and others."
There will be food, prizes, giveaways and interactive activities to provide information about various mental health topics.
For more information, contact the UCC at (309) 298-2453.
