Charles "Chuck" R. Slater Obituary

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Building Service Worker Charles "Chuck" R. Slater passed away Tuesday, May 2, in Quincy, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6 at the Community Christian Center in Bushnell. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday May 5 at the Martin-Hollis Funeral Home, also in Bushnell. Burial will be in the Bushnell Township Cemetery.

"The Western Illinois University community was shocked and saddened to hear of Charles' passing Tuesday. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and co-workers," said Western Illinois University President Guiyou Huang.

Slater began working at WIU in August 2011, and was currently assigned to the University Union.

"Chuck was an honest, hard worker who was always willing to do what was required at the time," said WIU Assistant Vice President for Facilities Management Troy Rhoads. "He could be counted on when needed and didn't shy away from a difficult task. He had many skills he was willing to share."

Slater is survived by his wife, Nicole; his father, John; his mother, Margaret; five children, Tyler, Zachary, Caleb, Tiffany and Natalie; three grandchildren, Blake, Colter and Mack, with a fourth, named Charlie, expected in July; four siblings, John, Benjamin, Terry and Arthur; two step-brothers, James Groutage and Aaron Groutage; and several nieces and nephews.
