MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the Western Illinois University region, including portions of north central Illinois, northwest Illinois, west central Illinois, east central Iowa, northeast Iowa, southeast Iowa and northeast Missouri.

WIU will remain open.

The Storm Prediction Center has a Moderate Risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

The thunderstorms will be very fast moving, from southwest to northeast at 60 mph.

If winds reach 70 miles per hour, the municipal sirens will sound. This does not necessarily indicate a tornado.

NSW suggests:

  • Stay weather aware today.

  • Listen to local news or NOAA Weather Radio for updates.

  • Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.

  • If a warning is issued or you can hear thunder, quickly find shelter in a sturdy building away from windows.
