Community Art Program Introduces Spring Classes on Sundays

MACOMB, IL -- The spring sessions of the Western Illinois University Art Education Community Art Program will be held on Sundays in March and April.

Classes will be held March 26 and April 2, 16 and 23. Classes for first and second graders will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. each Sunday in Garwood Hall, room 24, while classes for third and fourth graders will be held from 1-2:30 p.n. in Garwood Hall, room 26. Classes for students in fifth-eighth graders will be held from 3-4:30 p.m. in Garwood Hall, room 24.

There is a 15-student capacity for each class and classes are free.

This spring's classes include:

• First and Second Grade: Children will learn about the basic properties of color and how the colors interact with each other through multimedia. The mediums the children will explore are painting, folding paper, weaving, tissue paper and printmaking.

• Third and Fourth Grade: Children will be shown a brief history of the Pop-Art Movement, and will be exposed to Andy Warhol and his most famous works. All of the projects allow children to further explore Pop-Art Movement, and creating artworks by experimenting with combinations of bright colors through the use of print making, collage and mixed-media techniques.

• Fifth Through Eighth Grades: Young artists will be creating their own "Coraline" doll through 3-D modeling by manipulating wire and clay, mimicking their own physical features with color and texture, creating interesting designs for printmaking, forming and stitching fabric templates and depicting an individual environment using perspective.
