WIU Department of English Hosts Annual Writing Festival

MACOMB, IL – More than 80 students, from five regional high schools, participated in the 2023 Writing Festival at Western Illinois University, Monday, Feb. 6.

Students from the Bushnell-Prairie City, Cuba, Hamilton, Macomb and Burlington, IA school districts attended a variety of writing workshops during the event, sponsored by the WIU Department of English.

Faculty from WIU's College of Arts and Sciences, College of Fine Arts and Communication, and the School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration presented workshops on topics such as writing academic papers, writing police reports, writing about art and music, creative writing, and poetry.

Six WIU alumni from the English Education program, and now teaching at the attending schools, accompanied their students to campus.

Students also had the opportunity to participate in a writing contest. Twenty-five students entered, and students from Pekin High School, Burlington High School and Cuba High School took top honors.
