Social Work Conference Scheduled for Feb. 17 at WIU

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University's Counseling Center, the Social Work program and the Counselor Education program will host "Increasing Cultural Competence with the LGBTQIA+ Community from 1-4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, in Stipes Hall, room 121.

Check in will be held from 12:45-1 p.m. The conference can also be accessed virtually.

Admission is $15, with proceeds benefitting the Social Work Student Scholarship Fund. WIU Social Work Practicum field instructors will be admitted free. The deadline to register is Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Session topics include "Creating a Safe and Supportive Environment for Transgender and Gender Expansive Clients," by WIU Assistant Professor Haley Wikoff, of the Counselor Education program, and "Counseling Sexual and Gender Minorities; Implications for Clinical Practice," with Monmouth College Assistant Professor of Psychology Sydney Greenwalt, who is a post-doctoral resident at WIU's Counseling Center, and Jake Mitchell, a mental health counselor at WIU's Counseling Center.

There are three continuing education units (CEUs) available for social workers and professional counselors who attend.
