Three WIU Students Help Stage Weekend YMCA Circus Academy Show

MACOMB, IL – When the McDonough County YMCA's Circus Academy stages its latest performance at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, three Western Illinois University students will be part of the production crew. Admission to the show is free.

Senior social work major Jessie Fansler; senior exercise science major Whitney Piper; and junior agriculture science major Alyssa Ring work part-time at the YMCA teaching in the Circus Academy. Piper and Fansler are assistant directors and Ring is a circus coach.

The academy is directed by Amy Fansler Milas and teaches skills including aerial activities, including lyrical hoop, cloud swing, trapeze, juggling, clowning skills and ball acrobatics to students of all ages.

Two of the three student teachers will graduate from WIU in May 2023, and retire from helping run the circus academy.

"These three ladies are amazing young people who maintain high marks at WIU, all while helping me run this large and unique program," said Milas.
