Ervin Named Acting MCC Director

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- Carl Ervin, interim director of the new Office of Justice, Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (JIDE) and the former associate director of the Multicultural Center (MCC), has also been named the acting director of the MCC, effective Sept. 5. Director Rocio Ayard Ochoa has accepted a position off-campus. A national search will be held at a later date for a permanent director.
Ervin took over as interim JIDE director today (Sept. 1). He had served as the MCC program coordinator since December 2019, and was promoted to associate director in July 2021. Ervin previously served as the former assistant director of the Office of Student Services at Carroll University in Waukesha, WI from 2015-2019, and as the director of the Office of Diversity at Carroll from 2012-2015.
"We are appreciative of Carl stepping into this acting director role. His experiences and his leadership will continue to serve the center and our students well," said Interim Vice President for Student Services John Smith. "I'd also like to extend my sincere gratitude to Rocio for her leadership and guidance over the years. She has been an integral member of our student success team, and she will be missed."
Ervin has also been the coordinator of the Black Resource Center at the Center for Inclusive Excellence/Student Life & Intercultural Relations at SIU-Carbondale, the coordinator for multicultural programs and services at SIU-C, a counselor for the Upward Bound College Prep Academy in St. Louis, the director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs at Manchester University (IN) and a counselor of educational services and programs at Northern Illinois University.
Ervin earned a master's in education/counseling and guidance from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and a bachelor's degree in political science from Illinois State University.
