Moms' Day Celebrated at WIU April 9

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University will celebrate Moms' Day, Saturday, April 9, with a calendar full of events for students and their families to take part in.

This year's events include:

Moms' Day Bingo – Saturday, April 9, 7-9 p.m., University Union Grand Ballroom. The event is hosted by the University Union Board and will feature lots of great prizes.

Moms' Climb First – Sunday, April 10, 1-4 p.m., Horn Field Campus, 985 China Road, Macomb. The site's climbing tower will be open, weather permitting. All abilities are welcome and equipment and instruction will be provided. Sturdy, closed toe shoes are required to climb. Additional announcements will be available on the WIU Horn Field Campus Facebook page.

"A Pirate's Life for She" – Wednesday, April 6-Saturday, April 9, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 10, 2 p.m., Hainline Theatre, a play by Amie Root, and directed by WIU Theatre and Dance Professor DC Wright. For reservations, call (309) 298-2900, or stop by the box office in the Hainline Theatre lobby. All WIU COVID protocols are in place.

Choirs Masterworks Concert – Saturday, April 9, 7:30-8:30 p.m., WIU College of Fine Arts and Communication Recital Hall, on the WIU campus. The performance will also be broadcast on the School of Music's YouTube channel and Facebook page. Limited audience seating is available with COVID guidelines.

Golfing – Saturday, April 9, beginning at noon, WIU Harry Mussatto Golf Course. The event will be a two-person, nine-hole scramble. Students play for free, with a $10 cart fee. Mom's play for $25 and get a free range token. To reserve a tee time, call (309) 298-3676, or email golf@wiu.edu.

Community Weekend Events:

The Cow Patty Open House - Friday April 8, 2-7 p.m., Saturday, April 9, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Lakewood Lodge, 1000 Lakewood Drive, Macomb. The event includes products homemade in rural Illinois, including 100 percent soy wax melts, room sprays, natural reed diffusers and more.

Kayaking, Saturday, April 9, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Spring Lake Park, north of Macomb. Free kayaking and a waterproof cellphone case for any participants.

Day in Clay Workshop, Saturday, April 9, noon-1 p.m. or 1:30-2:30 p.m., Macomb Park District Ceramics Workshop, 1406 N. Randolph St., Macomb. This class will explore the use of stencils, stamps and underglazes. The event is open to all skill levels. Young children should be accompanied by a registered adult. Reservations are $8 for residents and $10 for non-residents. The fee includes clay, glaze, use of tools, bisque and glaze kiln firing.

Prairie Egg Hunt – Friday-Sunday, April 8-10, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Lakeview Nature Center, 10050 N. 1500th Road, Macomb. This is a free, self-guided event. Eight ceramic eggs are placed around the prairie with accompanying bird facts to discover.

Forgottonia Brewing – Saturday, April 9, 7-10 p.m., Forgottonia Taproom, 324 N. Lafayette St., Macomb. The event will include the Ugly BBQ food truck, from noon-9 p.m. (cash only) and a performance by "The Ex-Bombers," from 7-10 p.m.
