Schultz Named Vice President for Enrollment Management at WIU

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- Amber Schultz, former vice president for enrollment management at Edgewood College, Madison, WI, has been named Western Illinois University's new vice president for enrollment management, effective Aug. 1.

Schultz served as the vice president for enrollment management at Edgewood College from 2019 through 2021. In this role, she led the enrollment management division, which encompassed undergraduate and graduate admissions, marketing and strategic communications, student services, financial aid and scholarships. During her tenure at Edgewood, Schultz achieved the largest new entering class in recent history.

"I am so pleased to welcome Dr. Schultz to Western Illinois University as our new vice president for enrollment management. Her experience leading enrollment management efforts, along with her admissions-related experience, will provide outstanding leadership for this critical division at WIU," said WIU President Guiyou Huang. "I'd also like to extend my appreciation to Gary Swegan who has served as our interim associate vice president for enrollment management since January 2020. I am confident that Amber will continue to build upon the great work that Gary and the Division of Enrollment Management team have accomplished in the past 19 months."

Previously, she was the assistant vice president for admissions, marketing and recruitment at St. Cloud (MN) State University from 2014-2019, where she created and implemented recruitment goals and strategies. She oversaw initiatives that led to an increase in new first year and transfer students, and enhanced scholarship opportunities for new students. Schultz has also served as associate vice president for admissions, marketing and recruitment at Edinboro University (2013-2014); director of admissions and enrollment management at University of Minnesota, Crookston (2007-2012); and as assistant director of admissions (2005-2007) and freshman admissions counselor (1999-2005) at Winona (MN) State University.

"I am so excited to join the Western Illinois University community and collaborate campuswide to set and achieve enrollment goals," Schultz said. "Serving as WIU's inaugural vice president for enrollment is a challenge and opportunity I am energized to dive into. I look forward to getting to know everyone at WIU and in the Macomb and Quad Cities communities."

Schultz has a certificate in leadership in enrollment management from University of Southern California, an Ed.D. from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, her master's degree from Winona State and a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.

The vice president for enrollment management (VPEM) will oversee a Universitywide enrollment management process on the Macomb and Quad Cities campuses. The VPEM is responsible for the strategic vision, long-range planning, resource management and overall supervision and administration of personnel in the division of enrollment management, which includes undergraduate admissions, transfer services, retention initiatives, first year advising, transition and academic skills, career preparation and employer engagement and financial aid. The VPEM is primarily responsible for growing student enrollment and retention and improving the transfer process.
