MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Office Manager Lisa Turke has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for January 2019.

Turke began working at WIU in August 2007 as an office support associate in the WIU Department of Biological Sciences. In January 2010, she was promoted to office support specialist and moved to educational studies. In January 2013, she audited to office manager and in June 2018, she transferred to the College of Education and Human Services Dean's Office to her current position.

According to her nominators, she always presents a professional demeanor when greeting visitors, students, faculty or staff.

"Whatever situation arises or questions she is asked, she is always proficient in providing a satisfactory solution," said her nominator. "She provides training on procedures and processes and answers questions on a regular basis for the department's office workers. She goes above and beyond by regularly answering emails over the weekend, and she is known to come in after normal business hours to assist faculty members with printing issues. She also often comes in on weekends to open electronic classrooms."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Christine Staley at CD-Staley@wiu.edu.
