Schoonover Named WIU May Employee of the Month
May 29, 2019
MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Office Administrator Susan Schoonover has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for May 2019.
Schoonover began working at WIU in September 2006 as chief clerk in the Illinois Community College Board Adult Education Office. In July 2012, she transferred to the School of Global Education and Outreach and in October 2016 she moved her current position in the office of the Vice President for Advancement and Public Services.
Schoonover's nominators said she is "always professional and courteous in her daily interactions with students, staff, faculty, deans/directors and vice presidents.
"She is always positive, cheerful and very helpful," said her nominators. "She works with a great deal of people with many diverse personalities. She never gets flustered and is always pleasant. She works with promoting branding, trademark and logo issues to be certain the WIU logo adheres to University policy."
In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.
The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Christine Staley at CD-Staley@wiu.edu.
