MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Financial Aid Advisor Manager Dyan Root has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for January 2019.

Root began her career at WIU in August 2015 as a financial aid advisor. In November 2016, she was promoted to financial aid coordinator. She was again promoted in February 2018 to her current position.

Root's nominator said she is the model employee that every supervisor hopes for.

"She absorbs job responsibilities very quickly and very well," said her nominator. "She is very conscious of the quality of her work and she has an excellent demeanor when advising families. Her attitude as a team player helps the Financial Aid office move forward in processing our goals. The result of her team effort exceeds our expectations and our students are well served by employees like her."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Christine Staley at CD-Staley@wiu.edu.
