Kostreva Named October Employee of the Month
October 16, 2018
MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Office Support Specialist Ruth Kostreva has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for October.
Kostreva began her career at WIU in February 2015 as an office support associate in WESL (Western English as a Second Language) in the Center for International Studies. In September 2017, she was reclassified by audit to her current position.
According to her nominators, Kostreva always puts students first and is positive, endlessly patient and always smiling.
"She is enthusiastic and has assumed new duties and learned new tasks, making the transition seamless for the department," said her nominator. "She has gone above and beyond by going to local churches to welcome international students to the area. Students know she is there for them by listening to their issues and guiding and assisting them. She takes interest in their lives by asking them how their day is going or what their future plans are."
In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.
The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Christine Staley at CD-Staley@wiu.edu.
