MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Procurement Officer Specialist Dawna Zimmerman has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for September.

In January 1998, Zimmerman was hired as an extra help secretary in WIU's Billing and Receivables office. She was promoted to secretary III in March 1998, in marketing and finance, and in 2005, she was promoted to secretary IV in the same office. Zimmerman was promoted to purchasing officer II in June 2007 and to her current position in July 2011.

According to her nominator, Zimmerman is the "perfect example of a model employee who performs every task with a high level of professionalism, grace and quiet leadership."

"Dawna has garnered respect from numerous professionals across the WIU campus, but also within the State of Illinois," said her nominator. "She has the attitude of 'glass half full' mentality when learning a new task."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Christine Staley at CD-Staley@wiu.edu.
