MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University Administrative Assistant Dawn Schmitt, of WQPT in the Quad Cities, has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for November.

She was hired in her current position in September 2010.

According to Schmitt's nominator, she is a great asset to WIU and WQPT and is "an exemplary role model for other faculty and staff.

"She took it upon herself to make sure grant reports, gifts-in-kind, trade agreements and underwriting contracts were completed within their deadline, even though it wasn't part of her job," the nominator said. "She also works with students through accounting internships and help them gain the knowledge of how to use accounting software, techniques to reconcile accounting, resolve discrepancies, gain further understanding of the audit requirements and much more."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Connie Lincoln at CM-Lincoln@wiu.edu.
