Services Set for Cindy Dooley

MACOMB, IL -- Funeral services for Cindy Dooley, associate dean for the Western Illinois University College of Education and Human Services (COEHS), will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Basco. Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, with family meeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. Dooley, 61, of Macomb, passed away Sept. 22 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

"The Western Illinois University community mourns Cindy's passing," said President Jack Thomas. "We extend our deepest sympathies to her family, friends and colleagues."

Prior to being named associate dean, Dooley served as chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at WIU. Dooley joined Western's curriculum and instruction department in 1989 as an instructor. She was promoted to assistant professor in 1993 and associate professor in 1999. Prior to her 2004 appointment as chair, she had served as assistant to the chair since Spring 2001. Before joining Western's faculty, Dooley was a teacher and coordinator for Hancock County's Gifted Education Cooperative in Carthage. She has also worked as an elementary school teacher in Hancock Central School District No. 338 in Carthage.

Dooley received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Western, and her Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.

She is survived by her husband, Steven; two daughters, Sara Henning and Amber Dooley; one granddaughter; her parents, Harold and Ina Huls; two sisters; and her father and mother-in-law.
