Strom Named Civil Service Employee of the Month

MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University Business Administrative Associate Diana Strom, of the Financial Aid office, has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for September.

Strom was hired as an extra help clerical assistant in the Financial Aid office from July-August 2008. She was then hired as an extra help financial aid adviser III in the Financial Aid office from October 2010-January 2011. In January 2011, she was hired as a full-time financial aid adviser IV/financial aid adviser manager in the Financial Aid office. In July 2015, she was reallocated by audit to business administrative associate in the Financial Aid office.

According to Strom's nominator, her "knowledge and understanding of the intricate world of financial aid rules, regulations, processes and all of its facets makes her a pleasure to work with."

The nominator added that Strom was the contact person for a new application program for the WIU office she works in and she recruited numerous people to test the application prior to the processing deadline.

"Her positive demeanor and strong student advocacy are positive impacts which cannot be ignored," said her nominator.

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year.
