Services Set for LEJA Associate Professor William Rehling

MACOMB, IL -- Services for Western Illinois University School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration (LEJA) Associate Professor William Rehling will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23 at St. Thomas More Church in Munster, IN. Rehling, 70, passed away in Avon Sunday, May 17.

Rehling joined the law enforcement department at Western as an assistant professor in 1996. He was promoted to associate professor three years later, and in 2002, received tenure. He taught courses in criminal law, criminal procedure and evidence.

"The Western Illinois University community mourns William's death," said President Jack Thomas. "We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends."

Prior to joining the faculty at WIU, Rehling spent 13 years with the Cook County State's Attorney's Office. While there, he worked in the juvenile court as both a courtroom attorney and the supervisor. He also worked in felony review, grand jury, preliminary hearing courts and the felony trial courts, and he worked in private legal practice that included both criminal and juvenile law.

He was also the administrator of a juvenile justice certification course for policemen through the Illinois Law Enforcement Center.

Rehling earned his bachelor's degree and a juris doctorate from DePaul University.

He is survived by long time companion Louise Rehling, one brother and one sister and many nieces and nephews.
