  • Responsibilities:

    Employees at this level are well-experienced administrators who work under general supervision of a designated supervisor. They are familiar with all Linux/UNIX servers in the environment, and perform preliminary design and optimization plans. They serve as a resource to internal and external staff on these servers and how they support University resources.

     

    A Linux/UNIX Server Engineer I typically:

    1. supports core server systems that are crucial to University function
    2. designs and implements procedures and solutions for optimizing the server infrastructure
    3. researches new technologies to find opportunity for efficiencies and advancement
    4. tests and develops integration plans for complex systems spanning server, network, and datacenter infrastructure
    5. coordinates troubleshooting efforts relating to server systems
    6. may perform lower level duties within this series as required
    7. performs other related duties as assigned
    8. must be able to work flexible hours and to be on call
  • Required Qualifications:
    1. High school diploma or equivalent.
    2. Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:
      1. College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
        • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
        • Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
        • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
        • Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
      2. Work experience in server management using current versions of enterprise Linux/UNIX distributions (e.g. CentOS/RedHat, Ubuntu LTS)
    3. Three (3) additional years of work experience in server management using current versions of enterprise Linux/UNIX distributions (e.g. CentOS/RedHat, Ubuntu LTS)
    4. One (1) additional year of work experience maintaining an enterprise server environment of over 50 servers.
  • Starting Salary: $4,999/month
