WIU String Festival & Conducting Masterclass

We are thrilled to announce the inaugural Western Illinois University String Festival and Conducting Masterclass! The festival will include two components:
String Festival
- Open to high school string players
- Afternoon of workshops, technique classes, and side-by-side reading with the WIU Chamber Orchestra and Faculty
- Repertoire to include the finale of Tchaikovsky’s String Serenade
Conducting Masterclass
- Open to K-12 ensemble directors
- Chance to conduct the WIU Symphony Orchestra
- Technique class/masterclass
- Repertoire: selections from Beethoven Symphony No. 1 and Dvorak Symphony No. 9
- Receive Professional Development Certificate
All events will take place at the Western Illinois University School of Music in Macomb, Illinois.

Registration Fee
- $25 - Includes all activities, t-shirt, and lunch!
Application Details
- Deadline to Apply: Friday, April 1, 2022
- Applications after the deadline will only be considered if space is available.
- High school students who are interested in performing in a masterclass must submit an audio or video recording of their playing
- Ensemble directors may submit a short clip of their conducting (optional)

COVID Policy
- Audience members and participants are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated.
- Off-campus visitors are encouraged to complete the WIU self-check before arriving to campus at https://wiu.edu/selfcheck.
- Face coverings must be worn by all participants and audience members
- Audience members will be expected to maintain proper social distancing from others not in their group.
