Biographical Sketch: Dr. Jamie L. Johnson, is a Professor in the School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration. He earned a Doctorate of Philosophy from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois, in August 2002.

Dr. Johnson has presented at state, national, and international conferences and published articles in peer-reviewed journals on emergency management, weapons of mass destruction, health sciences, safety, public preparedness, homeland security, survival, search and rescue, and education. Most notably, he collaborated on a series of articles outlining plans for a Homeland Security Intelligence Academy (HSIA). The HSIA would equip students with homeland security and intelligence related practical and tactical skills, and would bolster students' leadership abilities.

With the Center for Applications of Information Technologies (CAIT), Dr. Johnson has developed computer simulations that incorporate animation technology with divergent outcomes. These simulations, accessible through the Illinois Delivery of Education Alliance (IDEA) Resource Clearinghouse, reach school administrators, emergency management, law enforcement and the general public with critical information about survival and evacuation.

Dr. Johnson has consulted with governmental organizations, private industry, and the public teaching hand to hand combat, bladed weaponry, blunt weaponry, flexible weaponry, fire arm tactics, tracking methods, and wilderness/urban survival concepts. As a consultant to K-12 schools, hospitals, universities, and private businesses, he has taught and/or developed proper emergency operational center designs, emergency operational plans, continuity of operation plans, threat assessments, and evacuation plans.  During his time in higher education he has developed eight curricula designed to strengthen the student’s capability on the job in the fields of medicine, health sciences, emergency management, and homeland security.

Dr. Johnson has maintained an interest in both health and personal safety since he began training in the martial arts in 1987. Along with his study of several styles of martial arts, he also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training and a Master of Science degree in Health Sciences. Through his personal interest in survival and the martial arts, combined with his study of health and the human body, emergency management, homeland security, Dr. Johnson constantly works to develop new ways of facing today's threats to the public through human or natural methods.
