Academic Advising
My Financial Life
Have a financial question? Paying for college includes more than your tuition costs. You have additional fees & services to pay, textbook expenses, comforts to meet, account holds to manage, financial aid processes to learn, and scholarship options to inquire about.
I want to apply for as many scholarships as possible. Where do you suggest I start?
Start at our Scholarships website to read about and apply for scholarships, including those specifically for our Quad Cities students.
I need help paying for textbooks. Is there any scholarship money available for textbooks?
Several scholarships such as the Spring for Books Scholarship, the Leatherneck Book Award, and the WIU-QC Book Scholarship are available to assist with textbooks. Visit the scholarships site for a complete listing.
My balance is too high to register. How can I fix this?
Your bill does not have to be paid in full to register for classes, but your past due balance must be under a certain amount. Your bill must be paid in full to receive transcripts.
Students can automatically access account balances by selecting B/R Account Detail on STARS. The information is also available during regular business hours by calling 309-298-1831.
I have a hold on my account, what do I do?
It is always a good idea to check with your academic advisor. Your academic advisor can be very resourceful to you especially in instances like these. In fact, if you have an academic hold on your account and are wanting to register, you can not do so without speaking with your advisor first. There are other kinds of holds, but your advisor will be able to pinpoint why and refer you to the appropriate place. Here are examples of some holds that students may encounter:
- Immunization Hold: see Beu Health (309) 298-1888.
- Billing Encumbrance: check with Billing and Receivables at (309) 298-1831 and or Financial Aid at (309) 298-2446.
- Administrative Holds: contact the Registrar (309) 298-1891; this could be a transcript issue.
- Housing Holds: contact University Housing and Dining (UHDS) in situations where you are required to complete or renew a housing application. UHDS can be reached at (309) 298-3000.
Information on other holds can be found on the Billing & Receivables website.
I need textbooks. Where can I go to see my options?
You have options to order your textbooks. Options include:
- Finding your textbooks on the WIU Bookstore website. Purchasing and renting options are available. The WIU Bookstore website provides a cost comparison for the course materials you will need for each course.
- Finding your textbooks from other sources. Here are some examples:
(You will need to know the textbook ISBN #)
Textbook information is on STARS under course search for each class.
