It’s realistic to have concerns about your student’s health and safety. Learn about emergency alerts, health care providers, safety measures, student insurance, and campus services to help your student deal with issues they might be having while they’re away at school.
How can my student sign up to get emergency alerts about campus? Can they add my number?
Information about how to sign up for WIU’s Emergency Alert System can be found here. Students can add up to two school phone numbers and two home phone numbers.
Macomb Campus Specific Questions
If my student is having difficulty dealing with academic and personal issues, who can I have them reach out to on campus?
The University Counseling Center (UCC) provides free and confidential counseling to enrolled students.
The Student Development and Success Center assists students through their transitional periods focusing on academic and personal development. They can assist with absences, care reporting and referrals, emergency and crisis follow up, military activations, and University withdrawals.
My student is not feeling well and needs some medical attention. Who can I contact or where can my student go for medical assistance?
Beu Health Center is an accredited full-service medical clinic offering quality outpatient health care, student health insurance, and health education and wellness education to registered Western Illinois University students.
I have health insurance. My student doesn’t need Western’s plan. Is there some kind of form they can fill out?
Your student will need to fill out a health insurance waiver to prove coverage and avoid being charged for Western Illinois University health insurance. This form MUST be filled out by the 10th day of classes each academic year.
My student has an immunization hold. What does that mean?

What does my student need to know to stay safe on campus?
Western Illinois University's Office of Public Safety (OPS) ensures the safety and security of students, faculty, staff and campus visitors, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. OPS works with others across the WIU campus, and within the local community, to provide a safe environment and to ensure a campus that is pleasant and secure.
