Academic Advising
Adding/Dropping Classes
During the first week of the semester
- any open class not indicating SP (special permission) or R (restricted) can be added using STARS.
- permission required to add a closed class. Receiving permission is not the same as being registered. Student must register for class using STARS.
- SP (special permission) and R (restricted) classes always require computer clearance.
- any class can be dropped without penalty.
- some classes (ENG 100, FYE classes, some lab sciences, etc) require permission to drop.
During the second week of the semester
- permission required to add any class
- any class dropped by the end of the 10th day does not appear on the transcript
- some classes (ENG 100, FYE classes, some lab sciences, etc) require permission to drop.
After the second week of the semester
- too late to add a 16 week class
- classes may be dropped until the end of the 10th week. A “W” will appear on the transcript.
- some classes (ENG 100, FYE classes, some lab sciences, etc) require permission to drop.
After the tenth week of the semester
- classes may no longer be dropped unless student does a total University withdrawal. Extenuating circumstances require a CAGAS appeal and instructor support to avoid receiving failing grades even if withdrawing.
Total University Withdrawal
- The last day for a total university withdrawal is the Friday before final exam week begins. A student may withdraw from the university and receive a W for each course in which s/he is doing passing work at the time of the withdrawal. A failing grade will be recorded for any course the student is not passing if the withdrawal is made after the drop date at the end of the ninth week of classes. The decision of whether to award an F or a W is at the discretion of the individual instructor.
