Undergraduate Advising

Academic Advising

Undergraduate students pursuing degrees in theatre are assigned a faculty member to serve as academic adviser after the initial enrollment in fall of the freshman year. The adviser helps make registration and related procedures as easy as possible. The adviser can succeed in this task only if the student remains in contact with the adviser. The student should consult the adviser regarding all courses taken and dropped in order to insure that the requirements of the program being followed will be properly fulfilled. From the University's standpoint, an accumulation of courses and credits does not necessarily constitute a degree program. Students with special problems are encouraged to seek assistance from their teachers and the department chairperson.

Students pursuing a minor in theatre or dance may also have an adviser who can advise about courses needed in the minor; however, the primary adviser is determined by the student’s major degree area.

Students wishing to change their adviser should contact the Department Chairperson, Jeannie Woods.

Career Mentoring

Faculty in theatre and dance also advise students on career paths and assist them in preparing for auditions and interviews. Such advisement may be offered by the academic advisor or by any faculty member in the program. Frequent workshops and coaching assistance is offered throughout the academic year and students are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities.
