Office of the Registrar
FERPA Training for University Employees
FERPA is the acronym for Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. The Office the Registrar offers two delivery methods for FERPA training. The training is designed to help faculty and staff understand the act and learn how to comply.
Office training is presented by staff from the Office of the Registrar when requested. To request training please contact the Office of the Registrar at (309) 298-1891.
The purpose of this tutorial is to provide basic FERPA training for WIU faculty and staff. The University is legally and ethically obligated to protect the confidentiality of student records. Employees who are granted access to student records must review this tutorial and complete a brief quiz.
You should expect to gain the following from this tutorial:
- Knowledge of laws and policies governing acceptable use and release of student records.
- An understanding of your responsibilities in complying with these laws and policies.
- An understanding of how to protect a student's right to privacy.
At the conclusion of the review section, you may take the FERPA Quiz.
