About a year ago I decided I needed a career change. As a non-traditional student it was important for me to find something that offered flexibility and was nearby. I chose to get a bachelor's degree in Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration at Western Illinois University in the Quad Cities. The reasons I chose RPTA was number one for the variety of careers you could pursue within the degree and number two it was very applicable to my interest and life style. It was the BEST decision I have made! The classes are offered a couple days a week in the afternoon and evenings, which works out well for my family. The understanding of the professors is phenomenal when a family situation arises that can't be avoided. My professors do everything they can to help me succeed, they go above and beyond of what is expected. The hands on practical learning is another aspect I like, often we go out into the community to practice what we have learned. The small classes sizes are beneficial as I really get to know my professors and classmates, who by the way think nothing of having a non-traditional student amongst them. Western Illinois is a great fit for me. I highly recommend if you are thinking of major or career change to try the RPTA program in the Quad Cities. You won't be disappointed!
