Purple & Gold Day 2015
Western Illinois University and your WIU Alumni Association will celebrate Purple and Gold Day 2015 with 15 simultaneous events around the world on Friday, April 24.
The Purple and Gold Day tradition began
, 2000, when the University closed its year-long 100-year celebration with the "Centennial Finale: A Celebration of Purple and Gold." That date in 2000 marked 100 years to the day (
April 24, 1899)
that the Illinois Legislature approved the creation of Western Illinois University, then Western Illinois State Normal School. Members of the University community are encouraged to wear the colors to express their school spirit on that day, and this year, are also encouraged to attend one of the 15 events.
Announcing next five Purple and Gold Day locations:
In July, we announced the first five locations: Macomb, Chicago, Moline, St. Louis and South Korea. On August 24, we announced the second five locations!! Join WIU in eight months in Peoria, Naperville, Denver, Phoenix and Washington D.C. plus 10 other locations on April 24 , 2015!
Keep an eye out on September 24 when we announce the remaining five locations via the website, email, social media and the Western News. Events will include an evening social with food and drinks, along with a message from WIU streamed live to all 15 locations.
