Preacher Moss Brings 'End of Racism' Tour to Western | Ag Silver To Take the Stage at Western

Preacher Moss Brings 'End of Racism' Tour to Western

Preacher MossOn Wednesday, January 30, the University Union Board will welcome speaker Preacher Moss to the Union Grand Ballroom. Known for his talents as a comedy writer for such comedians as Damon Wayans, Darrell Hammond of Saturday Night Live and George Lopez of The George Lopez Show, his comedic view comes from glimpses of truth we find in everyday reality. Described as one of the best comedy-lecture performers on the college circuit today, he has been profiled on the BBC, ABC, CBS Sunday Morning and Fox News Dayside. Come share the laughter and the spirit. You can join in the dialogue about one of the most troubling issues in society today, racism. Admission is free for students and the general public; the event will begin at 7 p.m.

Ag Silver To Take the Stage at Western

Ag Silver Alternative rock band Ag Silver will take the stage at the Union Grand Ballroom on January 24 at 8 p.m.

After winning Michigan's largest Battle of the Bands in December of 2003, Ag Silver did something that seemed counter-intuitive to some; they locked themselves in a basement for the better part of 2 years. "We really felt like we were just beginning to scrape the tip of the iceberg with our songwriting,” said Jon Ornée, lead singer and lyricist. "Even though we were beginning to gain some regional attention from our live show, we decided to step back, trash most of our music and re-dream the whole thing.” Perhaps the most unique trait of the new music is it's believability. Whether they are in a hushed bridge or a climactic outro, you can feel the passion behind the music, and you get the sense that Ornée is bearing his soul in the lyrics. Most of the songs deal with common human themes of doubt, love and hope. Ornée seems to be striving for something that he can't quite put his finger on. While the lyrics are believable, the music itself makes you want to believe in something, anything. “We really strive to make music that, in it's nature, regardless of the lyrics, moves the listener,” Ornée explained. Their revamped live shows have become known for their arena-like experience, and the new album is receiving stellar revues and airplay on more than 200 college radio stations nationwide. There is no admission for students or the general public.
