The Centennial Honors College Organizes Constitution Day Celebration

The Centennial Honors College with the University Library again co-sponsored the annual federally-mandated Constitution Day Celebration. This year’s observance was on Wednesday, September 16 in the Garden Lounge of Malpass Library. The theme was “The Constitution and Privacy Rights: Balancing Freedom and Security.” The event began with a display of research posters by Western students from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm. Nearly 80 students offered research on landmark decisions, famous judges, legislative enactments, and policies relating to privacy rights. The celebration concluded with a panel discussion, moderated by Keith Boeckelman, Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science. Panel members and topics included: Tim Roberts, Professor of History--"A Brief View of the Long History of American Privacy Law"; Aimee Shouse, Professor and Chair of Women’s Studies--"Women's Bodies: The Shifting Line between Women's Privacy Rights and the Public Interest": and, Jill Myers, Professor and Assistant Director of LEJA--"Privacy and Technology: Its Impact on You." Nearly 100 students, faculty, staff and community members attended the panel.
