Group Fitness

Group Fitness Class Policies & Procedures

  1. Classes are open to WIU students and Campus Recreation members only.
  2. Classes will be limited to 9 participants in Fitness Studio East, and 7 participants in Fitness Studio West.
  3. Social distancing guidelines will be in effect. Participants will be asked to try and maintain a 6-foot distance from others before, during, and after classes.
  4. Participants and instructors will have their temperatures taken before classes. Temperatures will be recorded on the daily participant logs.
  5. Hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes will be made available at every class.
  6. Please bring your own water. The drinking fountains at the Rec Center are offline until further notice.
  7. IMPORTANT: PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND IN-PERSON GROUP FITNESS CLASSES IF YOU FEEL ILL OR ARE SHOWING SYMPTOMS OF ILLNESS!

Group Fitness Class Descriptions

Cardio & Strength

Battle Bars --  This is the perfect class for anyone who has ever wondered how to train with barbells, but has been too afraid or uncertain to try. This class will use our BodyBars to their full advantage. These bars range in weight from 12-36lbs, and are the perfect learning tool to give you a proper introduction to fitness using barbells!

Director’s Boot Camp – Join our Director of Campus Recreation, Nick Knowles, as he brings you along for the ride in his own personal blend of exercises designed to challenge you while you have a ton of fun. Nick draws on his experiences as a United States Marine to help push you to your limits and improve your fitness.

HardCORE – Get ready to have your core muscles whipped into shape! This short, intense workout will target your torso using a variety of exercises with the goal of developing a midsection that is both aesthetic and functional. Not only will this class help you build a punch-proof stomach, but it will help your other activities be safer and more effective.

Kickboxing – Learn the basics of kickboxing technique and de-stress with this non-stop, high-intensity workout. Whether you are new to group fitness or looking to challenge yourself in a different way, you will kick, punch, bob, and weave your way to a higher fitness level and leave each class feeling fierce! Also beneficial for learning self-defense!

Ropes Gone Wild – They aren’t called “Battle Ropes” for nothing! Learn how to use the ropes and mix them into a full-body strength-endurance and cardio workout. The ropes will give you a workout unlike any other.

Total Body Toning – Leave no muscle un-worked! Enjoy a variety of movements and exercises aimed to work your body with a mix of resistance training and cardio intervals. Forget about “arm day” and “leg day”. In this class, every day is “total body day”.

TRX -- This class will take you through a series of strength and cardio circuits on the TRX Suspension Trainer®, an integrated fitness training system that will be sure to test your strength and balance. You’re in control of how much you want to challenge yourself on each exercise – because you can simply adjust your body position to change the difficulty level.

Dance-Based

Latin Cardio Dance -- A fusion of Latin and International dance moves that create a dynamic, exciting, and fun fitness class! The routines feature aerobic interval training with a combination of easy to follow dance moves that tone and sculpt the body. All fitness levels welcome & no dance experience required.

Rocky's Dance Fusion -- A unique blend of hip hop dance steps and a variety of strength, cardio, and core movements make this class a blast! You'll get in shape while learning some cool, new dance moves for the weekend!

Cycle

Cycle – No frills, bells, or whistles. Just Pure Cycle! This class is 45 minutes of non-stop, pedal-spinning excitement. Your legs will be arguing with your lungs over who is getting the better workout. Trick question: it’s both!

Mind-Body

Yoga – De-stress after class. The middle of the afternoon is the perfect to unwind and re-focus using a number of different poses and routines. This class is the perfect way to go into the evening with a refreshed mind and body.

Sunrise Yoga  – Better for you than a cup of coffee, this morning yoga class is the perfect way to start your day! Awaken your body, mind, and soul, and you'll be set up for success before most people have even rolled out of bed.

Weekend

Rocky’s Weekend Workout -- A different instructor and format each weekend will give you plenty of variety and a chances to try different workout styles. The class could be any of our cardio & strength, cycle, or dance classes. Keep an eye out for what classes will be taught every week on the Group Fitness bulletin board.
