MACOMB, IL – Cara Cerullo, a counselor in the Western Illinois University Counseling Center, has been named interim director of the center, effective July 1. Amy Buwick, who has served as director since 2018, retired in May after nearly 29 years of service at WIU. A national search will be held at a later date.

Cerullo started working at WIU in 2008 as part of Beu Health Center's Alcohol and Other Drug Resource Center.

"Cara's experience within the University Counseling Center, and her clinical experience, will allow the center to continue to provide outstanding care and support for our students," said Vice President for Student Success David Braverman. "We wish Amy the best in her retirement and thank her for her many years of dedicated service."

Cerullo is a licensed clinical social worker and a certified alcohol and other drug counselor. She also serves as an adjunct instructor in the Department of Health Sciences and Social Work. Cerullo is currently enrolled in the Doctorate of Education (Ed Leadership) program at WIU, with a focus on organizational justice, equity and inclusion. She received her master's and bachelor's degrees from the University of Iowa.

The University Counseling Center has the primary responsibility for the delivery of counseling services, assessment services, consultation, training, public relations and outreach activities to WIU students.
