WIU Celebrates Dads' Day Saturday, Oct. 16

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University will celebrate Dads' Day in Macomb Saturday, Oct. 16.

Dads' Day merchandise will be for sale beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 in the University Union Service Center, on the ground floor.

Events planned on campus Saturday include:

Noon kickoff – Leatherneck Football, Hanson Field. WIU will play host to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. Tailgating begins five hours before kick-off in Q-Lot, adjacent to the field. All students receive free admission with their student identification. Tickets can be purchased at leathernecktickets.com, or by calling (309) 298-1190.

Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 16-17 - Golf at Harry Mussatto Golf Course – In honor of Dads' Day, dads and family members can golf 18 holes with a cart for $30. Tee times can be scheduled at (309) 298-3676.

In addition to campus events, numerous events planned in Macomb include:

8 a.m. – noon – Farmer's Market, Chandler Park, north of downtown Macomb

10 a.m. – noon – Moon Over Macomb, downtown Macomb – events include a Halloween costume parade, activities for children, horse-drawn trolley rides and more.

5:30-7:30 pm. – Moonlight Meander – a free celebration to celebrate the arrival of autumn will be held at Lakeview Nature Area and Center, 10050 N. 1500th Road, in rural Macomb. Seasonal activities include a prairie pumpkin hunt, illuminated trail, lantern walks and a campfire.

1 – 4 p.m. – Hike, bike or kayak at Spring Lake, 620 Spring Lake Park Road. WIU dads and their students can enjoy free kayak rentals (weather permitting – temperature must be above 60 degrees).
