MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of Communication and the Social Media Lab will host a promotional poster competition that encourages mask usage on campus and in the community.

"I think it's important to remind each other to mask up," said WIU Associate Professor Josh Averbeck. "We've heard this message many times, and the poster contest is a new way to show people that message."

Community members, local artists and University staff will judge the entries for creativity, use of the theme and clarity of message.

"Having community buy-in to promote masks is an effective way to increase participation," said Averbeck. "Our community has done a great job, but I don't want us to start getting too comfortable. These posters will serve as reminders. I'm excited to see what our community will create. There are some really talented people here and I look forward to showcasing their work."

The winning posters will be printed and shared across campus and in the Macomb community.

Submissions are free and due by March 19. Posters can be uploaded at bit.ly/WIUPosters.
