Leatherneck Football Alumnus,
The first game is almost here with our 2013 preseason schedule ending and school starting. Camp weather was great and we have made progress as a team. After a competitive camp, our practice emphasis has now changed over to preparation for Hampton University on Thursday August 29th.
We have worked hard this preseason to establish the same high level of passion and commitment that I have felt from alumni over the past seven months. Throughout camp, we have even brought back several former players and coaches to address the team regarding the Leatherneck tradition including Jim Van Vlymen '98, Pat Bayers '84, and Kevin Palermo '12.
I am very excited to get the school year started and also happy to report that my son Kyle, who graduated from high school in Minnesota this past June, started classes at Western last Monday.
If you have an opportunity to visit campus feel free to stop by the newly renovated main football office or the practice field and introduce yourself. Our 2013 football season ticket sales are running nearly 50% ahead of last year so I hope we can fill Hanson Field and then some for that first game on the 29th. It is my hope that we can “Pack the House” to help get that “Leatherneck Win”.
Sincerely,
Bob Nielson
Head Football Coach
