Headline
The Western Illinois, Women’s Soccer team, will travel to Charleston on Thursday to take on their in state rival, the Eastern Illinois Panthers. The Panthers own an (7-4-1) edge over the Leathernecks, but the Leathernecks are looking to win two in a row and to take four out of their last five meetings against the Panthers. The Lea
thernecks come into this game with a (2-3-1) record. Going on the road will not rattle these ladies as they have a (2-1) record on the road, while going (0-2-1) at home on this young season.
Junior goalkeeper, Megan Tyk, is looking for her 18th career victory, which would put her in a tie for most wins by a Western Illinois goalkeeper. The only other keeper in Western’s history with 18 wins will be present at the game, but standing on the opposing teams’ sidelines. Eastern Illinois’ coach, Summer Perala, will be anxiously watching to see if her record set back in 2001 will still stand on its own. Tyk is also two shutouts away from tying Perala’s all time shutout record that is set at 10.
The Leathernecks have one more non-conference game against Grand View, before opening up conference play against IUPUI on Saturday, October, 3rd at 1pm. That game will be held at John McKenzie alumni field.
