Halloween at WIU

It's the time of year when ghost, goblins and ghouls come out to play, running from door to door trying to get as many sweets as they can. Like the years before, these monsters will takeover many of the resident halls here at Western Illinois University tonight.
From 5:30p.m. to 8:00 p.m. North Quad, Higgins, Thompson, Corbin, Lincoln, Washington, and Grote Hall will offer Trick or Treating. All Vampires, Skeletons and Witches must be twelve years old or younger haunt the resident halls. A parent or guardian must accompany all spooks, while the spooks scare the candy out of the college students hands into their bags.
Halloween is a fun time a time fro everyone; however, it can be a dangerous time as well. It is important to make sure that everyone knows the dangers of Halloween. While very scary, dark costumes can make it difficult for other to see you. However as unrealistic as it might be, adding a little reflector tape to the sleeves of your costume will help drivers see you better at night. Masks can also block vision, so it is important that you or your little monster can see where you are going as they wander around in the search for sweets. You may need to cut bigger holes in the mask.
Halloween is a lot more fun in groups, and if your monster says they ar to old to go with an adult, make sure they have a group of peers to go with. It is important to tell them to stay together and stick to a route. Advise your Ghoul against eating candy before getting home, so that you can look it over and make sure it is safe to eat.
Halloween is a good time to address basic safety tips such as; looking both ways, crossing at crosswalks, not getting into car with strangers and staying together. When it comes to Halloween, there are two parts to the night the treat, for the younger crowd, and then comes the trick. While a good trick is fun, vandalism is not. Not only is it against the law, but also it can ruin the victim's fun, and coast them a lot of money.
So be smart, be safety and have a Happy Halloween!
